Altair, es la estrella más brillante de la constelación del Aguila, a o 53 Aquilae. Los árabes también veían en esta constelación una gran águila volando, emplearon el nombre de elnars-el-tair del que derivó el nombre de Altair. Ocupa el duodécimo lugar en orden de brillo entre todas las estrellas del cielo. Tiene una magnitud de +0,77 y está situada a 16 a.l. de nosotros, acercándose a razón de 26 kms cada segundo que pasa. Es un astro magnífico, unas cuatro veces más voluminoso que nuestro Sol y clase espectral (A), la misma a la que pertenece Sirio y muchísimo más joven, con solo 630 millones de años de edad. La temperatura de este tipo espectral oscila entre 7500-11000º y el espectro presentan líneas fuertes del hidrógeno, el calcio ionizado y otros metales ionizados, además de líneas débiles del Helio.-
